Virtualbox screensize

Continuing with my experiments with VM, I've been bothered that I couldn't use my widescreen for each guest machine. Turns out I needed to install the virtualbox guest additions and install this inside each guest.
The following site covers it nicely.

Virtualbox USB devices on Maverick

After going back to maverick, I wanted to help out the next development of Ubuntu, so I fired up virtualbox. However none of my USB devices were working. The fix is simple.

Ubuntu Natty - First Thoughts

Being a technophile, I decided to give the latest version of Ubuntu, codename Natty Narwhal 11.04, a try. This is a radical depature from the Gnome/KDE based linux desktop as it uses the new Unity interface.

This is Ubuntus big push to be more slick than MacOS. Overall the direction is a good one, but this feels far to unfinished to work. The point about progress is that things become easier and richer in terms of ability. The new Unity does not fulfil that right now. I think Ubuntu knew this, so helpfully provided a standard Gnome interface too. The decision is that apart from Unity, there is no new functionality, therefore why upgrade at all?

I will continue to use the current LTS version for now.

Cough up from Blair

Right, so we're supposed to think better of Tony Blair now that he is donating his advance and royalties from his book to the RBS (Charity not the bank, Gordon covered that one!)

The guy became the gimp of the US. Instead of offering cold and solid advice, he rolled over.

The only reason he is getting shot of the money is that he has no chance of covering it through sales. So before Rupert Murdoch can get it back, he gets rid of it.

If it was done to spite Murdoch, I'd be glad but I know it's only for his self interest.

Thinking the impossible with Tax

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/aug/15/deficit-crisis-tax-the-rich

"The top 10% of the country own more than £4T (over 50%) of the personal wealth of the country...A one-off tax of just 20% on the wealth of this group would pay the national debt and dramatically reduce the deficit (sic)"

Here is an idea so dangerous, so revolutionary (I use that word with all it's historical power), so powerful that I'm surprised I've still read it.

What keeps this going is that it'll be immediately killed off as some sort of lunatic idea, more at home with lunar conspiracies and mysterious cults.

I first read about this in the eye, and the audacity of what people do is shocking.

Priorities?

Ah the wonderful world of 1st world priorities. If you're American you worry about the primaries and how each candidate looks pretty on TV. If you're British you worry about M&S sales affecting house prices and how much immigration to allow.

Poor people really have it easy don't they? None of this to worry about. Just the simple issue of getting enough calories (why? Where is McDs when you need them) and medicine.

Read the last quote..."my son got malaria...I couldn't afford the medicine.....He died"

There but for the grace of God go I.

I'm not hungry.

How much?

Suddenly I see that we do have the power to fix this world, it's just the skull f**ks who think they can find better things to spend it on.
